Monique and I started foraging mushrooms as a hobby when we were living in Western Washington state. The mushrooms were so abundant where we lived it was impossible not to be curious about them. We had a few friends teach us and take us out on mushroom walks.
It was around this same time we became interested in farming and decided to come back home to Michigan to do an internship. We worked one summer for a mid sized organic farm in south west Michigan. And then came back to our home town of Alpena to work for another organic farm, Centurion Farms LLC, the following spring.
It was at Centurion where we began to experiment with larger scale mushroom growing. With some early success at the Alpena farmer's market we decided to dedicate ourselves full time to the new endeavor.
It was that fall of 2008 when Michigan Mushrooms LLC was officially formed. From the start it was a family affair, with everybody pitching in time and labor. We built a greenhouse, expanded our lab and began to put all we had into the farm.
Since then we have gone through many ups and downs. Many challenges and learning experiences, but through it all have become better at our craft. We are proud to provide high quality mushrooms at reasonable prices
